The source map

What the notes stand on. 17 essays rest on 234 distinct sources. Below: how old that evidence is, and how it connects, down to the papers citing each other.

How old is the evidence

Up and down arrows move between notes. Left and right arrows step through a note's dated sources, oldest first. Enter shows a note's details or opens a source, and Escape closes it.

One dated source, in the note's color
Median year of the note's sources
Time is stretched toward the present: recent decades get more room than old centuries
One row per note, newest evidence first. 110 of 229 dated sources were published in 2015 or later. Where a reference gives an original date, the dot uses it. Pick a row for its details, or a dot for its source.
How the sources connect

Plus and minus zoom, zero fits the whole map, and arrow keys move the map once zoomed in. Press Tab to reach the notes.

Up and down arrows go from note to note. Left and right arrows step through a note's sources. Enter selects a note or opens a source. Escape closes it, or clears the selection.

Drawn from each note's reference list. Citation counts and the citations between sources come from OpenAlex, fetched 2026-11-06, for the 136 sources with a DOI. Tags used by more than four notes are left out, so "trust" doesn't tie everything together.
